How To Train Magic Skill In OSRS

Oct 30

Magic is a necessary skill in Old School RuneScape, especially for free-to-play players. Since tablets are not available to buy or use on the server, many teleports can only be accessed by leveling up their Magic skill. Nonetheless, for those with Old School RuneScape memberships, Magic is still a valuable skill to master.

In OSRS, Magic is considered passive and can be trained in "zero time". Passive training methods may become tedious or expensive before high-level alchemy becomes available, so players may opt for low-effort alternatives to get through the early levels.

OSRS Magic Training Guide

Before you can begin training Magic, remember that every great mage requires runes! Every spell will require at least one type of rune and many spells need three or four. At level 1 magic, for instance, the only spell available is Wind Strike- which needs just air and mind to cast it. But don't worry: with staves, such as elemental staves equipped, there are unlimited pieces of whatever basic element you're casting a particular type of rune from.

How To Get Runes

You can get runes by doing one of these methods:

  1. Crafting Runes. Crafting runes at a runecrafting altar is fast and easy. You just need the right talisman or tiara, rune essence, and either pure essence or more expensive runes to craft with.
  2. Buying Runes. It is important to note that you can also buy runes in shops and from other players. One major advantage of this method is usually being able to obtain a larger stock faster, but keep in mind it will result in spending more OSRS GP or needing additional funds for training if starting without any money.
  3. Killing monsters. Some of them drop runes. It's not the best way to get runes, but it does provide a decent amount and can save you some money in the long run if you're crafty enough.

Best Quests For Training Magic In OSRS

Passing the first few levels of magic training is challenging for many OSRS players, but you can make it through by completing these quests.

  • The Grand Tree
  • Witch's Potion
  • Watchtower
  • Imp Catcher
  • Fairytale I - Growing Pains
  • The Giant Dwarf
  • Spirits of the Elid
  • Recipe for Disaster

How To Train Magic

The use of staff is highly recommended because it allows you to cast spells by going into combat options, clicking the spell button, and choosing which spell you want to auto-cast. If not using a staff, then casting should be done manually each time.

The following equipment is recommended for those who want to train Magic fast and easy in OSRS:

  • Amulet of magic
  • Wizard hat
  • Zamorak monk bottom
  • Blue wizard robe

It is a good idea to use Wind Strike on cows around Lumbridge. This will allow you to get some levels quickly, and the cowhides that they drop can be sold for profit or used in Crafting skills. You should bring with you enough shrimp/jugs of wine so as not to waste time going back and forth from town too often- this way, you'll find it easier to level up while also getting hides! As your level increases, more spells are unlocked; Water Strike at level 5, Earth strike at level 10, and at level 13, Fire Strike.

Instead of cows, you can opt to kill something else entirely with a similar combat level, such as chickens, spiders, ducks, or goblins.
